The Son Jung Wan 2018 Fall/Winter collection that was shown on Saturday, February 10th at Spring Studios during NYFW, was nothing short of perfection. Extravagant hues of bright yellows, brilliant blues, and gorgeous greens brought this collection to life. Rich textures, such as shiny silks, luxe furs, and thick wools added dimension to each and every look that floated down the runway. And immaculate attention to detail, like the rose dust pink shearling jacket with zipper embellishment, are just a few of the aspects that not only made this collection inspiring, but magical as well.
It takes a certain type of magic to take the audience through a modern time machine–all while keeping the maximalism fashion the underlying focus. The flared bell bottom silk pants with contrasting pleated fabrics took you on a trip through the seventies, while the strong structural lush fur silhouettes brought you straight to the eighties.
If that alone isn’t enough to make you want the entire Son Jung Wan collection in your closet stat- then perhaps the sparkle in the silver sequined top and matching silver pants with side embellishments will do the trick. The way that the sequins sparkled down the runway literally halted the audience’s breath–and Kira Kira was definitely not required to see the brilliance.
It is very evident that each piece in Son Jung Wan’s Fall/Winter collection is a work of art. Her runway show this season was the museum where the audience was able to gawk, take in, and lust after each and every piece as the models strutted down the runway. In fact, as soon as the show was over, I overheard the people next to me squealing, “I had chills! The best show I’ve seen yet!” I have to agree. When a designer is able to give the audience chills, she’s done her job; and Son Jung Wan did just that.
